ORATIO IMPERATA

In prayerful preparation for the 2022 presidential election

We pray for the conversion of the Philippine people.

We beseech Almighty God through the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Philippines, to grant us political leaders who with knowledge, competence, foresight, and integrity will choose to govern wisely, according to the justice which bears fruit in peace.

We petition for selfless leadership, good governance, public policy that is informed, sound, and effective and which advances the common good, for honest, worthy, transparent, and accountable public service, strong democratic institutions, the protection and support of our God-given rights, and for rule of law so dependable and exemplary that it inspires our trust and high regard.

Queen of the Philippines, pray for us!

***

May 31, 2021 is the feast in the Roman Catholic Church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

  2. PRAYER FOR 2022 ELECTIONS

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) released a prayer for all Catholic churches in the Philippines to recite ahead of the 2022 elections.

    English version

Leader: Let us pray that the forthcoming national and local elections may truly reflect the will of the Lord who guides the destinies of nations.

For every petition, let us pray together: Deliver us, Lord.

    Response: Deliver us, Lord.

From coercion, intimidation, violence, and terrorism…
From dishonesty, lies, and all distortion of truth…
From bribery, graft, and all conspiracy for fraud…
From gullibility to the deceptive and blindness of perspective…
From threats, intimidation, and perverse language…

    Leader: Let us pray together:

    Response: Hear us, Lord.

That conscience may always be our ultimate norm…
That the common good may always be our highest goal…
That human dignity may be respected all the time…
That the poor and the weak may always have the priority…
That care for creation may never be ignored…
That solidarity may guide the path of peace and development…
That genuine fear of God and love of neighbors may guide those who seek public office…

    Leader: Let us pray.

All together: Shepherd of souls and Savior of the nations, politics is your gift to us, a call to serve others and grow in holiness. Guide our politics as you guide our lives. May our political engagement for voters and candidates bring glory to your loving name and help us grow in holiness, forever and ever. Amen.

Sama-sama nating idalangin: Iligtas mo kami, Panginoon.

    Lahat: Iligtas mo kami, Panginoon.

Mula sa pamimilit, pananakot, karahasan, at terorismo …
Mula sa panloloko, pagsisinungaling, at pagbaluktot sa katotohanan…
Mula sa panunuhol, kasakiman, at sabwatan upang makapandaya…
Mula sa pagbabanta, pananakot, at lapastangang pananalita…

    Tagapamuno: Sama-sama nating idalangin:

    Lahat: Dinggin Mo kami, Panginoon.

Amen.

  3. OLDEST PRAYER TO THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY

In 1917, the John Rylands Library in Manchester, England, acquired a large panel of Egyptian papyrus, written in Koine Greek (the “Mediterranean Lingua Franca” in which the Gospels were written). The prayer, as explained at Trisagion Films’ Website, is to be found in the fragment labeled under the number 470, and it appears to be from a Coptic Christmas liturgy (maybe Christmas Vespers), although the fragment might as well be a private copy of the prayer.

    The prayer goes:

Beneath [your] compassion, we take refuge, O Mother of God: do not despise our petitions in time of trouble, but rescue us from dangers, only pure one, only blessed one.
