Pilgrimage to the Minor Basilica and Metropolitan Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception
April 16, Jubilee Year of 2021
Spiritual Reflection
Jesus wishes for us to honor his mother and to venerate her uniquely. In doing so we glorify God.

April 16, 2021 is the memorial in the Roman Catholic Church of Saint Bernadette Soubirous.
“…the
words were spoken in her native Bigourdan dialect and were completely
unfamiliar, ‘qué soy era Immaculada Councepciou.’ Bernadette did not understand
but the parish priest did.”

of the Blessed Virgin Mary at Lourdes in 1858,” Agenzia Fides (21 May 2007)

OLDEST PRAYER TO THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY
ReplyDeleteIn 1917, the John Rylands Library in Manchester, England, acquired a large panel of Egyptian papyrus, written in Koine Greek (the “Mediterranean Lingua Franca” in which the Gospels were written). The prayer, as explained at Trisagion Films’ Website, is to be found in the fragment labeled under the number 470, and it appears to be from a Coptic Christmas liturgy (maybe Christmas Vespers), although the fragment might as well be a private copy of the prayer.
The prayer goes:
Beneath [your] compassion, we take refuge, O Mother of God: do not despise our petitions in time of trouble, but rescue us from dangers, only pure one, only blessed one.
