9.
Jesus Appears to over 500 Disciples (1 Corinthians 15:6)
Recalls
the appointment of the seventy-two disciples—not everyone is chosen to become an apostle but all are called to witness to the gospel.
10.
Triumph of the Elect (Revelation 7:9-17)
***
I
created this list in jest, but after mulling on it over the years I am
persuaded that it is worth prayerful reflection.
“The
Lord will beat down before you the enemies that rise up against you; they will
come out against you from one direction, and flee before you in seven.
“The
Lord will affirm the blessing upon you, on your barns and on all your
undertakings; he will bless you in the land that the Lord, your God, is giving
you.
“The
Lord will establish you as a holy people, as he swore to you, if you keep the
commandments of the Lord, your God, and walk in his ways.
“The
Lord will generously increase the fruit of your womb, the offspring of your livestock,
and the produce of your soil, upon the land which the Lord swore to your
ancestors he would give you.
“The
Lord will open up for you his rich storehouse, the heavens, to give your land
rain in due season and to bless all the works of your hands.” (Deuteronomy 28:7-9,
11-12)

The Third Luminous Mystery is the Proclamation of the Kingdom of God. I always thought it didn’t fit well together with the other four, which are localized in time and place, each less than one day long, several possibly for a few hours only or even shorter. I prefer to imagine this odd man out mystery as a circumscribed event, like the Sermon on the Mount.

God pours forth his material and spiritual blessings in abundance—we voluntarily deprive ourselves of his largesse when we choose not to follow his law.
